Development process certification of automotive functional safety standards

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. obtained the development process certification of the automotive functional safety standard "ISO 26262" issued by the German third-party certification body SGS-T Ü V Saar GmbH on February 13, 2024, and was awarded the certificate on May 21.

Functional safety certified by this standard refers to the introduction of safety functions into vehicle electrical and electronic systems to cope with the occurrence of faults, thereby reducing the harm to drivers, passengers, pedestrians, etc. to an acceptable level. This certification recognizes that the development process of our company's hardware, software, and systems integrating these hardware and software has reached the "ISO 26262 ASIL D" level. ASIL-D is the highest level of Automotive Safety Integrity Level, representing the most stringent classification of functional safety requirements in the ISO 26262 standard. Therefore, communication modules and sensors manufactured based on our company's development process for functional safety purposes will have a high level of safety.

 


In recent years, with the popularization of autonomous driving, people's requirements for car safety performance have become increasingly high. ISO 26262 is an international standard for the functional safety of on-board electrical and electronic equipment. This certification confirms that our company's development process has reached the highest level of ASIL D among the four levels of ISO 26262 safety standards. Therefore, even systems with high failure risks such as airbags and electric power steering can meet high safety standards in our company.
